The Himachal Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (HPBOSE) was established in the year 1969 and is headquartered at Dharamshala, HP. The board supervises and regulates the Himachal class 10 (Matric) and HP class 12 (Plus Two) education and examination in the state. The board also carries out key responsibilities of prescribing courses, conduct examinations, deciding the syllabus and many more. Every year, the board sets up 1650 examination centres for over 500,000 examinees. Also, the HPBOSE is affiliated with 8000 schools across the state of Himachal Pradesh.
The Himachal Pradesh Board of Secondary Examination apart from conduction of the HP Matric and HP Plus Two examination also conducts the J.B.T and T.T.C examinations too.
The board conducts the examination of class 10 and class 12 standards in the month of March every year. In 2019, the board conducted the examinations of Class 12 (Plus Two) from March 6 to March 29 whereas, for Class 10 (Matric) it conducted the examinations from March 7 to March 20, 2019.
The Himachal Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (HPBOSE) holds the examinations of the both 10 and 12 in two different shifts; morning and afternoon session. The morning session is for regular and private students and is held from 8:45 am to 12:00 noon. The evening session is for candidates from State Open School (SOS) for which the timings are 1:45 pm to 5:00 pm.
Last year, the HPBOSE was marred by a number of controversies and allegations due to which it had to cancel some exams of class 12. The Physical and Computer Science papers had to be rescheduled as the question papers of both the subjects were allegedly stolen from Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. This incident led to a lot of controversies and disturbance amongst the students due to the changes made in the examination dates as the paper got leaked.
Results:
The HPBOSE usually declares the results for both class 10 and class 12 in the month of April/May. Till record, the board has always announced the examination results before the estimated time.In 2017, the results for the both class 12 was announced on 25 April whereas, the results for class 10 was announced on May 9.
