West Bengal has distinct bodies for the conduct of examinations at the Class 10 and Class 12 level. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) conducts the Madhyamik Pariksha (Class 10) Examinations each year, whereas the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is responsible for the conduct of the Higher Secondary (Class 12) Exam in the state. The other important bodies in the state include the West Bengal Council of Rabindra Open Schooling (WBCROS), West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCVET), West Bengal State Council of Technical Education (WBSCTE), West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam Board (WBJEEB) besides others. The results of the exams conducted by these bodies are announced in the month of May-June, for which the links are given above.

There are two major entrance exams conducted in West Bengal, namely the WBJEE - West Bengal Joint Entrance Exams (for engineering course admissions) and the JENPAS - Joint Entrance Test for Nursing, Paramedical and Allied Sciences. Both these exams are conducted by the WBJEEB and these entrance exams are mandatory for admissions to all Government-run Universities & colleges across the state.
