Established on 11th January 1956, Kurukshetra University is a State University located in the state of Haryana & holy city of Kurukshetra, approximately 160 kilometres from the national capital, New Delhi. The University has a campus spread over 473 acres of land and currently has over 275 affiliated colleges and institutes. The University offers about 170 courses on its campus in 49 Departments / Institutes. The varsity also houses 25 Hostels (11 for boys, 1 for Foreign male students and 13 for Girls students). Hostel Accommodation is provided on the basis of department merit list of admissions issued by KUK each year.Kurukshetra University is one of the 25 Universities of India graded as Category I University by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and one of the 10 State Universities of India selected by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD) for funding under RUSA worth Rs.100 crore. Under this scheme 5 Research Centres i.e., (i) Centre for Advance Material Research (CAMR); (ii) Centre for IT and Automation; (iii) Centre for Applied Biology in Environment Sciences (CABES); (iv) Centre for Advance Research in Earthquake Studies (CARES) and (v) Centre of Excellence for Research on the Saraswati River (CERSR) and six Training Centre i.e., (i) Incubation Centre; (ii) Centre for Skill Development (iii) Centre for Entrepreneurship; (iv) Corporate Resource Centre; (v) Centre for Continuing Education and (vi) Centre for Sports have been created with a vision to promote Research, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employability.
