Manipur University was established under the Manipur University Act. 1980 (Manipur Act 8 of 1980) on 5th June, 1980. It is a teaching cum-affiliating university at Imphal and has the territorial jurisdiction over the whole ofManipur. The university received the status of a central university in the year 2005.Manipur University is located at Canchipur, Imphal, and is spread over an area of 287 acres in the historic Canchipur which is the site of the old palace of Manipur "The LangthabalKonung" (Palace). This Palace was built by Maharaja Ghambhir Singh in 1827 AD just after the liberation of Manipur from Burmese occupation. Maharaja Gambhir Singh took his last breath at Canchipur. Canchipur is also the Birth Place of Dr. Lamabam Kamal, a renowned poet of Manipur.

Manipur University Admission Process
The candidates are required to sit for a written test followed by a personal interview for admission to the different courses in Manipur University.Manipur University Exam Pattern
Undergraduate Courses: The undergraduate courses are held for a duration of 3 years (6 semesters).B.Ed. Courses: The B.Ed. Courses are held for a duration of 2 years.
Post Graduate Courses: The PG courses are held for a duration of 2 years (4 semesters).
M.Phil. Programs: The M.Phil. Programs are held for a duration of 1 year.
PhD Programs: The duration of PhD Programs are minimum 3 years.
Diploma Courses: The diploma courses are sometimes of 6 months or 1 year duration.
