Tripura University was established on October 2, 1987 and is a Central University (one of the 49 Central Universities in India as of 2020) located in Suryamaninagar (Tripura West). Tripura University has a campus spread over 100 acres of land and is the main university in the state of Tripura apart from Maharaja Bir Bikram University (which is a State University). Tripura University has over 50 colleges in the state affiliated with it. The University at present runs various programs under its Science, Arts & Commerce Faculties. A total of 58 programmes are offered under Tripura University including Certificate Courses, Under Graduate, Post Graduate Diploma and other Post Graduate Programs. In addition to these, Ph.D Programmes are also offered in 38 subjects. In all, the University has 46 Departments offering 58 programs to students from entire Eastern India as well as Bangladesh.
